Magnesite is Primary mineral in igneous and sedimentary rocks with chemical formula MgCO3. and is a principal source of magnesium. It is formed by the metamorphism of serpentinites and peridotites. It is a Colourless, white, greyish-white, yellowish, brown, faintly pink, lilac-rose; colourless in transmitted light. Its Hardness is calculated at 3.5-4.5 on Mohs Scale. Its Specific Gravity varies between 3.0 - 3.02
Uses :
Magnesite can be used as a slag former in steelmaking furnaces, in conjunction with lime, in order to protect the magnesium oxide lining.
It can also be used as a catalyst and filler in the production of synthetic rubber and in the preparation of magnesium chemicals and fertilizers.
Similar to the production of lime, magnesite can be burned in the presence of charcoal to produce MgO.
Magnesite can also be used as a binder in flooring material.
Dead-Burn Magnesite is used in Basic refractories
Fused or electrofused magnesite is used for Thermal insulation (refractories) and Electrical insulation (electric ovens and appliances)
Fused or electrofused magnesite is used for Thermal insulation (refractories) and Electrical insulation (electric ovens and appliances)
Caustic-calcined magnesite is used for Extraction of magnesium,Production of fused magnesia,Cement, Insulation,Paper,Fertilizer and animalfeed, Stabilizer during vulcanization of rubber, Production of uranium Magnesite or magnesium carbonate (precipitated) is used in Insulation, Rubber Paint pigments and Ink,Glass and ceramics.
Brucite or magnesium hydroxide is used in Sugar refining,Flame and smoke retardants.
Magnesium chloride is used for manufacture of Cement,Ceramics and refractories Textiles, Paper.
Magnesium sulfate is used in making of Pulp and paper,Animal feed,Pharmaceuticals
